Continuing in our series of case studies, Professor Robert Kaplan is joining us for an evening of eventful discussion and thoughtful analysis.
In the world of Social Enterprise, sustained funding and investment are critical for the enterprise success. Funding and multi-year investments, however, require that the enterprise increase social impact in a way that can be measured and communicated to investors and other stakeholders. But how can social enterprises measure their performance?
New Profit, Inc. (NPI) is an innovative venture philanthropy fund. Founded by social entrepreneur Vanessa Kirsch, NPI raises large investments from individuals who wish to invest in nonprofit enterprises that could have a significant social impact and the capability to grow to scale. NPI uses an intensive due diligence process to search for and identify such organizations, provides initial funding, monitors their performance, and then provides additional funding to enable them to become high-impact, nationwide organizations.
From New Profit, “New Profit believes that just as entrepreneurship and invention have enabled our nation to create a productive, vibrant economy, so too can we harness America's spirit of innovation, vision, and optimism to help solve our most pressing social problems.”
NPI uses the Balanced Scorecard approach for measuring both its own performance and that of its portfolio companies. The Balanced Scorecard provides the language for the performance contract between NPI and its funders and board, and between NPI and its portfolio organizations.
We hope you can join us to discuss and learn about this innovative approach to social enterprise
Event to be held at Harvard Business School, Hawes 101.
