Joe Brusuelas
Chief Economist
McGladrey LLP

Joseph Brusuelas has over 20 years of experience in finance and economics and specializes in analyzing the U.S. monetary policy, labor markets, fiscal policy, economic indicators and the condition of the U.S. consumer. Prior to joining McGladrey in July 2014, Brusuelas spent four years as a senior economist at Bloomberg, LP and the Bloomberg Briefs newsletter group. As co-founder of the award winning Bloomberg Economic Brief, Brusuelas was named as one of the 26 economists to follow by the Huffington Post. Earlier in his career, he was a director at Moody's Analytics where he covered the U.S. and global economies for the Dismal Scientist web-site. He also served as chief economist at Merk Investments L.L.C. and chief U.S. economist at IDEAglobal.

In his current role, Brusuelas provides macroeconomic perspective to help clients anticipate and address the unique issues and challenges facing their businesses and the industries in which they operate. He also produces monthly economic reports for the middle market and for key industries within that market.

Brusuelas regularly appears on Bloomberg Television, Bloomberg Radio and is frequently quoted by the financial press on the U.S. and global economies. He is the co-author of Forex Analysis and Trading: Effective Top-Down Strategies Combining Fundamental, Position, and Technical Analyses and the upcoming "It’s Worse Than You Think: The US Economy and the Decline of the American Middle Class," both published by Wiley.

Nancy L. Aubrey, CPA

Nancy is a partner at McGladrey and has over 30 years of audit and business advisory experience. She leads the firm’s New England Risk Advisory Services practice including internal audit services, Sarbanes-Oxley compliance readiness consulting, risk management services, and Service Organization Controls (SOC) consulting and reporting. Nancy also leads the firm’s New England Life Science industry practice group; a dedicated team of partners and staff focused on delivering strategic innovative solutions to companies ranging from start-up to emerging and prominent public companies. She has extensive expertise in the areas of risk management, internal controls, Sarbanes-Oxley, SOC reporting, operational and process auditing, and financial statement audits.

Prior to joining McGladrey, Nancy was a partner in Caturano and Company and led the firm’s business risk and controls practice. She was also previously a partner in Arthur Andersen’s audit and business advisory practices.

Goodwin Procter

Mitchell Bloom is national co-chair of Goodwin Procter’s Life Sciences Practice. Mr. Bloom specializes in representing public and private life science companies, as well as venture capital firms and investment banks focused on the life sciences sector, including matters involving biotechnology, medical devices, diagnostics and healthcare information technology.

Jon Civitarese
Managing Director
Leerink Partners LLC

Jon Civitarese was one of the founding members at Leerink Partners LLC when he joined in 1995, providing advisory services to high-net-worth individuals in the Private Client Group prior to moving to Investment Banking. Since 1999, his activities have included advising public and private life science companies on strategic initiatives and equity capital financings as part of Leerink’s investment banking team. In addition to his primary banking responsibilities, he has also served as a senior member of the equity capital markets and syndicate team since 2001, successfully raising capital for over 150 public and private life science companies at various stages of development.

Jon began his career by serving in the U.S. Army as an infantry soldier, and later graduated from the University of Maine.

Patrick Conroy, Moderator

Patrick is a partner in McGladrey’s Transaction Advisory Services practice. With over 16 years of auditing and transaction experience, Patrick has worked on more than 200 domestic and international transactions across a broad group of industries. For the past 12 years, he has been dedicated to providing transaction advisory services to both financial and strategic buyers. Patrick has extensive experience providing the following:

  • Sell-side due diligence
  • Divesture and carve-out services
  • Negotiation and valuation support
  • Structuring advice
  • Merger integration and synergy reviews
  • External/internal financial reporting (GAAP) support
  • Turnaround and restructuring support
Prior to joining McGladrey in 2010, Patrick worked in Ernst & Young’s Transaction Advisory Services Group where he was responsible for supervising due diligence projects, including preparing detailed management reports that identified the key issues affecting the value of the deal, transaction risks, exposure areas, and process issues that potentially affected the integration. He has worked on transactions with deal sizes ranging from 10 million to 10 billion.
